Title: Wobbly and Leaky
Post by naiew on 12/03/14 at 08:52:27

Hi All Savage gurus,
I am new here and just gotten my '86 S40. After riding for 3 months, I realized the following and wonder if anyone can help me out here.
1. At about 90-100km/h, the bikes feels wobbly at the rear.
2. My left front fork is leaking and I changed it once I gotten the bike. Previous owner told me its a recurring issue but small issue. But after 3 months, it's leaking again.
3. I want to add on fork gaiters. Do I have to pull them up thru the front wheel or can I remove the two forks from the triple three and pull it down instead?
Newbie here so any answers if greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.  :D

You install gators from the top,.. by removing the tubes from the tree...
... but,.. that won't fix a leaking fork seal...

Try one of these, or make one from a soda bottle...
http://sealmate.net/...
... if that don't stop the leak, you need new seals...

Once you fix the fork issue,... see about the rear wobble...(they may be related)... :-?...

I was thinking out of sight, out of mind. Lol!
I doubt it's a seal problem as I have changed the seal previously once I gotten the bike and the mechanic told me it's good to go...it lasted all of 3 months...
But I am more concerned about the wobbling right now as it's going to be my daily ride once I sell the car.

If the leak comes back.....something is wrong.  Either the chrome has a nick and it is wearing the seal out, or yo have too much oil in the forks and it is getting pressurized....or the bushings in the forks are worn out.

Rear wheel wobble could be a lot of things....you need to get the back end up off the ground and see if anything moves in a way it shouldn't.  It could be a bad back tire, loose spokes, loose swing arm, bad rear wheels bearings, etc.

Daily ride??????  You must live pretty far south....you wouldn't be riding it every day up here in Kentucky - unless you are really durable.

Drag something around and listen to the spokes..dead,dull,sound is loose.
