Title: 'Bout over......
Post by raydawg on 11/01/14 at 11:41:57

Been an really unusual year thus far.....weather-wise.
My ride is a daily commuter bike and have had some really outstanding riding weather this year.
Rain is my sunshine, in a sense, and doesn't really hamper my commute with proper attention to conditions..... Having said that, I can finally come to the grip of reality the year is coming to a close, and winter is near by.
Just for the fun of it I took a few clicks out back behind the house, yes, they have that feel and testimony that the warmth is soon to be a memory.....

I invite all you shutterbugs to post your pixs of fall to this thread too  :-*

We had our first snowfall last night and this morning.  Not enough to stick on anything - but enough to let us know that riding will be limited to a warm day or two.....then winter will be here.

Time to start with the inside work making the upgrades!  For me it will be making some bars for the clip-ons that will allow me to make them a bit more level, installing the big front brake disc I got from ShawnRYCA, and the Ninja Cafe' conversion.  So.....I will still be having quality time with my bike!

Winter sucks! >:( A few of my students said it was snowing during the trick or treaters were out. My wife and I skipped it and went out for BBQ that night but we didn't get any snow. Had a hard frost so we dug the canna bulbs out. Need to clean the garage and get the Savage all cozy for winter.

Update....Maybe I can sneak in a short ride here and there for another week or two - but the forecast is not promising.  The forecast is for temps below 40 for highs, with the lows Mon and Tue maybe setting new records at 16 degrees!

Once they apply salt to the roads......my bikes get put away until the spring rains have washed the salt away.  I hate having bikes with rust and corrosion on them!

So.....less riding and more wrenching the next few months!

Well it has been 6 days since I've ridden.
Its not too bad, upper twenties in the morning and dry, but I have decided I won't ride anymore if it gets into the freeze temps.
We don't have ice, but a patch here and there on these rural roads in the dark is just getting to chancy for my old bones  :-*
It will be wet and above freezing all night/day long next week, I ride  ;D

ahhh...spring time here,a nice 19 degree cel with not much wind morning, been for a blast on the bike, wait for the lads to turn up this arvo for another rip. Can't understand the salt on roads thing,England do it too,(thats why there are more old school British cars here in NZ than England  ;) ),we just use stone chips on the roads here when it gets bad,and that works fine  :-?

Major cold spell -- nasty cold about a month early!

I had a nice ride on Sunday, it was a whooping 49 degrees! Felt good to throw on the leathers and have no where in particular to go, but it does look like a nasty winter creeping in early already.

Might ride Thursday......
But here is a shot of some hardy souls racing their small sail boats with temps in the low 30's the other day

So what is the wind chill when you are going the same speed as the wind???????

Not much apparent wind when it's behind you, but when beating to windward it should be pretty brisk!

Rode Saturday at ~23°F. Just got back from a ride tonight. The bank sign said it was 41°F. I'm just not ready to put her away for the winter!

I do believe.....I'm done!  Oil change in the Savage this weekend, fuel will come out, and the winter projects will start (Shawn Ryca front brake, leather seat makeover, build stainless header, Speedhut GPS speedometer/tach).

I will keep the fuel in the ST1100 for a few more weeks.....just in case we get a warm spell.
