Title: Vibration At 75+ MPH
Post by Cheetahs on 10/28/14 at 19:56:01

Hello all,

I've been experiencing vibration on:

Model/Year: Savage 2004
Miles: Less than 3900

First noticed it mostly on the right side such as the throttle, foot peg and mirror. Soon as I close the Clutch the vibration seem to be gone. Unless it's due to the reduced speed. Normally it doesn't bother me, but the impossible to see side mirror makes it rather risky. I tried tightening the mirror to only find its the bike itself.

Start with tightening the peg bolts, and the other motor mounts.

At 75 MPH?  yeah, you're going to see some vibrations.  It's hard to see clear definition through my mirrors at those speeds due to vibration.  I find that simply squeezing my hands a bit tighter helps momentarily.  It makes sense that squeezing the clutch kills the vibration, as you're letting the engine slow down.  It's shaking the whole bike.

Like JOG said, you can check your engine mounts.  Sounds like an average characteristic, though.

That's was kinda what I was thinking too, Bot.

And at 75+ mph everything I got is shaking.

But, hey, I kinda enjoy that too!  ;)

Haha, meant to be less than 3900 miles.

But okay thanks for all the responses. Just wanted to confirm if it's normal since the vibration. I will follow all the listed recommendations.

Thank You ~ :D

Yea, they arent called Thumpers fer nuthin.. Its probably nothing wrong, but checking motor mounts is never a bad idea,, Its New to you,, youve no idea how it was maintained. IF you didnt get a maintenance manual with the bike, then the owner didnt have one, and that says a lot.. I bought one ( ordered it) when I bought the bike.. Now, theyre available online,The Clymers has some known mistakes in it, but the guys here know where they are and they know whats the right answer,, and for a dollar theyll tell ya!

Check your front tire for cupping or uneven wear. The stock front tires wear out fast and will give a vibration at speed.
Also check the handle bar mounting bolts, if one is loose you will get a uneven vibration in the bars. Just check the tightness of the two nuts on the bottom of the tripple tree which run up throught the risers and make sure they are tightened evenly.
The big single doesn't vibrate at speed, it sings a sweet song :)

At 75+ I am more worried about what is going on in front of me so I dont use the side mirrors that often...
