Title: New bike, sold the Savage
Post by drharveys on 10/14/14 at 21:17:46

After Mrs Doc spent 1400 miles on the back of the Bonnie, it became apparent that something more akin to a road sofa was needed for our further travels.
There is now a Goldwing in our garage -- more on that later.
There was also just too many bikes in the garage -- even though we could squeeze the Suzuki in front of the Mini, it wasn't very practical.  Since the Bonnie is such a classic, it was the Suzuki that needed to find a new home.
Thanks to Craigslist, we found one with a student at my alma mater, Washington U -- here's a photo of them together:

Now I need to figure out how to add FSO to my profile...

Congrats on the Bike...
... and we get a new FSO... and perhaps a new member as well...

Sounds like a win win...

Now,...    how long 'till you miss your dear old Savage and buy another?... :-/...
;D ;D ;D....

Is that a "Dragon" sticker on the S40 tank?

You went to the Dragon without inviting us to go along? :(

I've done the Dragon twice, and I no longer have either bike:

First time was in 1996 on my BMW K-75. My daughter and I went to the BMW MOA national rally in Morgantown North Carolina.  Here we are on the way:

The second was with Mrs Doc on my BMW R1150 RS for the BMW RA rally -- here's the killboy photo of us on the Dragon in the rain:

The RA rally was held at the Biltmore in Asheville NC.  We camped on the grounds, but a visit to the house was part of the rally package.  Unique among all the mansions in the former slave states, this one was built well after the Civil War by paid artisans and craftspeople.

I no longer own either bike, so the memorabilia is for the rider, not the bike.

Here's a few photos of the new bike.  At least I kept the color of the Savage!
These were taken at the Falling Leaf rally last month.

Here's our campsite.  I'm pleased to state that all our gear fit into the saddlebags and topcase.  That's one tent, two sleeping bags and liners, two self-inflating air mattresses, two chairs, one table, two dry-bags for clothes, two rainsuits, two pairs of crocs (double as campsite and shower shoes), and one portable espresso maker.  I didn't need a thermos, because there was coffee and tea in the lodge for the duration of the rally.

curvephotos.com had a photographer stationed, and I bought three of the hi-res image files.  As you can see, he was photographing on a curve.

My "2-car" garage is currently holding
2 cars -- a Mini and an Xterra
1 Kendon dual motorcycle trailer
2 motorcycles -- Goldwing and Triumph Bonneville
3 solo bicycles -- my road bike, Mrs Doc's flat bar road bike and a folder
1 tandem bicycle -- hanging from the ceiling on a block and tackle
1 mechanic's tool set, Harbor Freight light duty
1 rack with 6 fishing rods
1 rack with 2 golf bags and clubs
1 bicycle rack
4 hanging cabinets
1 floor standing shelf unit
1 expanding ladder
1 set chest waders
Various hangars on the walls for motorcycle gear, camping gear, lawn chairs, cable modem for the internet connection, cases of espresso pods, motor oil...

And yes, we were able to squeeze in the Savage, but only on a temporary basis.
