Title: How a bastard saved the day
Post by runwyrlph on 10/14/14 at 18:01:30

A week or so ago I lost my spare key... ended up getting YH50 blanks on ebay, said it would fit.  My hardware store cut me 2 keys for $0 since I supplied the blanks.  (guess where i'll be buying bolts, glue, duct tape, ...etc)  :)

Anyway, it didn't fit - wouldn't go in.  Here's a tip I learned from the hardware guy which I guess is obvious to some of you:  If the blank won't go in, the cut key won't go in!

See pic below - the "ridge" is too wide on the YH50 key.

All was not lost, however.  A few minutes with my friend the bastard (file) gave us this alteration which turns the lock!

Sometimes ya gotta get western with it!

Also, I just got a YH51 from ilco a couple weeks ago, seems a hair "trickier" than the suzuki key to get in at first, but otherwise works fine.
