Title: Metalurgy of the bike Post by Spamy on 10/14/14 at 08:19:04 I couldnt find the previous post, but I intended to shoot the metal on the bike and see what exactly it was just for the heck of it. Here are the results, doesnt look like any special metals here. Weld away. I didn't find any particular alloy for any of these... not enough trace elements and Asian metal standards are different then ours. When I cut off the tubes for the footpeg mounts for my RYCA conversion - those tubes really are hard and my sawzall blades dulled very quickly. I got about one tube cut per each blade. |

But the swingarm peice I cleaned off before shooting. Most of the metal profiles are loaded in the gun. The name above is what it is closest catagarized to. Alumninum alloy and the others were Iron/Carbon Steel. If it can narrow it down to a value such as 6061, 316, whatever it will. But Japanese pot metal may not be a specific mix. |
