Hi All,

Finally got back to work on the Street Tracker. Here is the filter I'm using. It is a K & N 2710. The diameter is 3.5 inches and it is 5 inches long. The trick is that it has a built in 20 degree angle. I think this should be less restrictive than the typical "cone" filter. It has close to 3 times the filter area than the Ryca cone filter. I thought that that right angle pipe and filter combo on the Rcya bike looked kind of like a plumbing exercise. I think the one I'm using is neater. What you guys think?

Looks great. I use one similar to that but straight and it gets all smashed up putting it on and taking it off.

I agree,, The PLumbing Exercise stuff isnt visually tidy,, That is.
What kinda plane you been building? Looks kinda like a free flight.

I have almost the same thing....in foam. Mine is a Uni that is 6" long and has a 15 degree angle. I think it is easier to wash and oil foam than gauze. The inside foam filter is oiled and is black, the outer filter is dry and is red.
Part number UP-6229AST, or from Motorycle Superstore SKU - 17339.

I used a portion of the stock rubber boot to get the filter farther back in the frame and tucked out of sight.

Yea, Im not a K&N fan,, Foam is easier to dry.. gotta wait on K&N. You can squish foam and blow it.. Not sposed to b e slammin air thru the K&N..

So far, I cant remember seein a custom air filter better.. That said,, OF's Homebuilt wasnt Seen,, Id like to see a dyno run on one bike, stock filter, his home built, Daves and the K&N..

I agree that the foam filter is probably better. Sure is easier to service. I remember when I used to wash my Honda Elsinore filter in the kitchen sink, dishwasher detergent really cut the oil. Don't tell SWMBO.

The K & N is mostly for looks. This is a street tracker project and I want that dirt track look. Don't expect much in the way of performance but that large diameter Ryca exhaust will be LOUD.

The airplane is an old time ignition free flight. I have a 91 year old friend who designed the original in 1940. I'm recreating it from photos and his recollections. Yes, it has a spark plug, on a miniature engine. Threads on the plug are 1/4-32, miniature coil also, just like back in the old days before glo plugs were invented.

As far as I can see on other sites the 2710 doesnt have the bend in it. Can you verify the part number John?

My bad. The part number is RU-1710, listed under round straight filters. I just verified by looking at the box. BTW, there is an RU-1700 which is 4 inches long if you need more clearance, and an RU-1720 which is 6 inches long if you have the room.

I think the red donut is a fuel filter. I'll be replacing it as it doesn't match the color scheme.
