Title: Replacing carb screws with allen head bolts
Post by luckylouie82 on 10/02/14 at 13:38:46

I'm terrible with searching on this site!  I know I've seen this posted somewhere but can't find it now.  Can anybody tell me the size of the bolts on carb float bowl and top end?  Want to swap in allen bolts.

Also, anybody know the size of washer used for the washer mod on the carb needle?

Thanks all for the help.

Have ya got the old ones loose yet? What year model is it? Has it been garaged or parked out?
Never a bad idea to get some penetrating oil on something for a few days before ya start wrestling with little screws pokin into aluminum..
50/50 mix, acetone and transmission fluid, not good for paint. so, wipe it off,,

It's a 2011.  No haven't gotten the old ones loose.  I know I could just bring the old ones to Home Depot and use their gauges to find replacements.  Just wanted to save time and have them when I take them off instead off having to stop halfway through the job.

Go to the tech section index

scan down to carb specs

at the end of that thread is a listing of all the sizes.

It doesn't have the thread pitch listed, suggest you take at least one out.

Lay a bolt on the one you take in. If the threads interlock,Bongi!

There's the pitch..

Diameter is eeezee.

If you don't have Allen wrenches that have a groove cut close to the end of the long end, you'll be happier with them. They allow you to be off center and still turn the bolt.. like a wobble socket.

Anti_seize is on about every bolt I screw into aluminum. Not expensive and a bottle lasts for years.

And....get the shiny silver, stainless or chrome ones if you can.  The black ones are not all that great at being rust proof.
