Title: Re: Butterfly season... Post by runwyrlph on 09/30/14 at 16:54:33 speaking of butterflies, the other day I saw a caterpillar covered in these little white "bundles" about the size and shape of a rice grain. I looked it up, turns out there's some wasp that lays eggs in the caterpillar, they hatch, eat their way out, then form a cocoon while the poor caterpillar dies slowly - this poor sucker was still moving faintly, but couldn't crawl away when poked http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy299/madcap_bucket/unfortunatecaterpillar.jpg This is not "my" caterpillar, but same kind and about the same number of eggs. Kinda feel sorry for the little critter. "Soo ..itchy ..... no fingers.... oww..." |
Title: Re: Butterfly season... Post by Dave on 09/30/14 at 18:31:38 When I was riding on the Cherohola Skyway to meet MMRanch a month ago, I got one right smack dab in the middle of my visor! This one was evidently filled with butter....maybe that is why they are called "butterflies". When I got to the bottom of the hill I took my visor off and soaked it in the creek for a couple of minutes.....and it came off! |

Title: Re: Butterfly season... Post by arteacher on 10/01/14 at 21:06:54 I was at a cub camp (as a leader) one October weekend. I was standing on the north shore of Lake Erie looking out over the water when I noticed an orange tree not too far away. My first thought was that the leaves had turned, but then i noticed that the tree was covered with Monarch butterflies having a rest before taking off over the lake on their annual migration. There must have been 100,000 butterflies on that tree. |

Title: Re: Butterfly season... Post by v-pilot on 10/02/14 at 17:31:00 I used to ride with my visor half up and caught one of those big black and yellow swallow tails...right between the eyes. Nasty goo all over my sunglasses and face |

Post by prechermike on 10/03/14 at 03:22:53 I'm not sure what this WAS, but it sure made a mess. http://https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/1530454_797481386934274_482107233_n.jpg?oh=4b9ddc9393810c9a89f55ff346e4a3dc&oe=54BB167 Maybe this should go in the joke thread, but do you know what the last thing that went through his mind was? His butt! :D |
