Title: Speedo Cable gets chewed up!
Post by BadaBing on 09/29/14 at 05:54:31

Hey guys i need some help...

I just bought an '02 savage that needed some work. When I bought it, it didn't have a speedo cable in it. I didn't think much of it at the time. I just replaced the cable and went on my way.

Fast forward 2 weeks, and my speedo quits on me again. I pulled the cable out and the end that connects to the actual speedometer is all mangled and, for lack of a better word, "chewed up".

Anyone experienced this before? I assume my speedo is bad. What are my options?

Thanks!

Try turning the speedometer drive by hand and see if there is any resistance...there should not be any.

You might try taking the angle drive unit of the back of the speedometer and lubing it.

I have a good inner speedo cable I can ship you for $ 10.  I also have a early speedo that is good with 40,000 miles on it.  I used it for about a year and it works fine....it has a side stand light in it......but you just plug that light hole when you use it on a later bike.....or you could use the angle drive on your speedo.....$ 20 shipped for both the cable inner and speedo.
