I have a 2012 i bought with zero miles in april and have just over 650 miles on it. was going to do the post 600 mile oil change tomorrow but last night on the ride home motor started bogging and then stalled completely. now will only run with the choke on and stalls when the throttle is opened. did i get some bad gas or is it something else and what do i do? it is still under the factory warranty.

If it's still under warranty , it should be the dealers responsibility. Don't attempt repairs yourself. Check for your local consumer affairs advocate, there should be plenty on this forum who have experience in this matter.

Did you fuel up just before the change?

Has the fuel in the tank been there for a month or more?

Did you switch the petcock to PRIME and see if it runs any better?

Talked to the dealer and he suspected bad gas. suggested i drain the carb and see what happens and that did the trick. running fine but am headed to put in a tank of fresh gas. he suggested adding some Heet in the red bottle to each tank of gas. is this something that is a good idea?

I had put in some gas from a can that i keep in my truck for emergencies . it was probably 6 weeks old. won't do that again.:(

No need to treat gas. Run it. Now,if it's gonna sit and it's in a vented container it's gonna suck water in and evaporate off the stuff that.makes it go BOOM and it won't run worth a crap.

6 week old gas should run fine in most instances. Are you sure you just didnt hit the reserve level?

With about 1/4 tank left it will sputter out. I kinda assume you know this, but I just wanted to make sure in case its your first bike.

McDave, I see your from Minn, Where. Perhaps I could help.
(If close enough) I am about 25-30 miles West of the TC area.

1st, No Heat, If you want to add, their are so many other better things.
'SeaFoam", or, 'Stabel', both all over the place here.
Any Fleet/Farm, Wally World, Almost ANY, ''auto' parts place.

2nd. Use, 'NON-OXY', gas. Here in Minn, the, 'supposed' 10% ethanol, is running 12-14%. Even the gas stations don't know the exact %.
So use, 'NON-OXY' gas. We are lucky here, Non-Oxy, is available in a LOT of places.

3rd. If you don't fill up portable tanks, and fill gas at home.
Then go to gas stations that have, 'dedicated', Non-Oxy pumps. That way you get all, Non-Oxy' gas.

If it is a 'select', a grade, pump. Consider, what the person before you put in. A Pint or Quart, of that, 'selection' remains in the pump/hose.
If you are pumping 10 + gallons. A PT/QT, of 12% (+/-) gas doesn't add up to much. But if you are pumping, 1.5-2 gallons, it adds up.
AND, What if the person before you, pumped E-85 ??????

I use portable tanks. (5 gal, 'jerry' cans).
If it is a, 'select', a grade. I run a Gal in the truck,
Then fill the tanks. That way I Know, what is coming out of the hose,
is, all, 'Non-Oxy'.

What dealer did you go to? I have been looking at a few of, 'NEW', 12/13 S40's. Heinen in Osseo seem to have the best deals.
You got a new one, you use the correct oil, RPM's high enough, Correct break in, (Old Style). It will last a LONG time.

I did find, some, 'Red-Line' additive, (for the oil),
You buy a gallon jug of Rotella, I'll put, 4 Oz in, and you are good to go.
Until you find some, 'Red-Line".

Ya didn't hurt nothing in that ICE, Just put in 'Good' gas.
Break in in correctly, and use 'High Zink', oil.
And that ICE will last a long time.

I use Sta-Bil, marine application. I have kept several 55 gallon drums for a year before they were all empty. Of course,they aren't vented and they are kept as cool as possible in the summer. Details are not important,just that the gas stays good.. As the other guy said,,6weeks? Should be fine,but,his post covers the gamut of possibilities and he sure covered the bases.
I don't live where 85%ethanol is,but seriously,what is in the pump and hose is too large a% of the tanks capacity to not take that into consideration. I used to maintain gas pumps and they have a filter,One filter,every grade comes through the same filter. So,that's about a quart right there. Add to that the volume of the rest of the plumbing to get thru the"computer"(the mechanism that measures the fuel and applies the correct price per gallon),on up and out to the hose,plus the hose.. sheesh,,Hafta be getting on close to a gallon.

thankyou all. a lot of good advice here.i think there is a station here in town with a dedicated non oxy hose. i think for a start i'll give that a try.
