Title: Oil leak from front of motor
Post by roadrunner2432 on 09/08/14 at 11:41:40

My buddy just bought a 1997 Savage with 3200 miles. Bike is incredibly clean except for an oil leak on the motor. I have looked up information on here and found information on the leak that occurs from the plug underneath the head of the motor. This leak appears to becoming from a plug on the front of the motor that is easily accessible. Any info you guys have is greatly appreciated.

I have reviewed this thread and although it contains great information, I am looking for information regarding the plug located in the middle of the motor in the front.

sounds like the port for oil pressure check

there's a diagram in the tech section, that passage comes straight from the oil pump
pull the bolt and check its not cross threaded
don't remember if there's a washer

Or it could be that the oil filler plug needs a new O-ring.

We really need a better description of what/where the problem is located.  Photos really help.

In the middle of the motor in front could be the head nut, not a plug.

how about a pic?
