Title: 1/4 in. Digital Torque Wrench Adapter
Post by MnSpring on 08/13/14 at 12:22:13

I Do not wrench for a living, just now and then, (when I have to).

However do like things which make that job easier,
and being, frugal, I didn't like the 100.00 +, Digital Torque Wrenches,
which I thought were, (less than par). And looked at several, 'adapters',
again, did not think they were, 'up to snuff', (for the lower priced ones)

Have some of the, 'old' style, and have used a fish scale on a wrench, numerous times. But paper calculating, as to what was what.
(Well, just didn't want to do it any more)

Then I found this:
Bikemaster 1/4 in. Digital Torque Wrench Adapter - Mod RJ-754. (with 2.2-22.1 ft lb range),

It was at Dennis Kirk.  (Their # is: 15-2244)
(Where a, actual, "Live Human being", who, Actually, "Speaks ENGLISH", answers the phone)

https://www.denniskirk.com/bikemaster/1-4-in-digital-torque-wrench-adapter.p283927.prd/283927.sku

I Just got done, 'playing' with it.
And as a friend, who was limping around for years,
who had his hip replaced, said: "Shoulda done that, Years ago".

Might be something useful, after all, you have all the drives, sockets, and wrenches. Just put this between them, turn it on, and 'torque'.

I am sure the serious wrenchers, have this, or something like it,
but for us, 'Shade Tree', 'fixers', ?  It works for me.

That's right interesting. Just be aware that they Give torque specs for about everything on the bike and most stuff really only needs to be tight enough to not fall off.
If you can put a clutch cover on and it not leak with less torque than the book says the bolts can take,Good deal..

I've seen those digital adapters and if I didn't already own torque wrenches I would be tempted to buy one.

+1 for Justin-o-guy.  Some of the torques listed in motorcycle manuals seem a little high to me and I only use a torque wrench to make certain I don't over torque, I always quit when it feels right.  Most of the time I don't use a torque wrench, especially on something that can be tightened with a 1/4 inch drive.  I go real easy with the small stuff, fingers and maybe wrist have enough power to do it.

Yea, have always gone by the seat of my pants, on the small stuff.
Gee, Steel Hardened bolt, going into soft aluminum?

This little, 'toy', probably falls under the "What The Heck' Category.

However, the, 'book says 10 lbs, on the gear cover bolts.
I put them on by, 'feel', this thing said I was between, 7-8 LBS.

I is a happy camper.   LOL   ;D
The, 'big', maniacal ones, I can easily read the 20/40/60/80/100 marks. And if the book says 50, I really don't think that, if it is,  45 or 55, it makes much of a difference.

Going to play with it on guns.  Of course, all the 'Replica' firearms from Italy, (Cowboy type guns), they hire a large gorilla, who is trained to use a air wrench, and he assembles them !  So it will be fun to see, what, 'Seat of the pants' is, when putting in new screws.  I think the around 2-3 fp. measurement will come into play. But will see.
