Title: Gas Tank Tango
Post by 49mack on 08/08/14 at 17:11:31

Frequently removing the gas tank sorting out a fueling issue was a hassle. The hassle was getting the tank back on. I've made things a bit easier: 1, lose the stock petcock and install a Yamaha Raptor 600 piece. Follow the thread on this site to learn what to plug, etc. Great improvement. 2, Use some silicone sealer to glue the rubber "pucks" on the frame. Clean the posts before installing and 3, spray a sparing amount of lube (WD40) on the pucks. 4, Use silicone seal to stick the seat mounting grommets in place. I did the pair that sits on the frame and also the two that fit on the tank mounting upper bracket. It's so much less of a task when stuff isn't falling off while you are balancing the tank with one hand. 5, Lastly, route all the wiring and plastic connecetors along the top of the upper frame rail. Zip tie them in place. Raptor petcocks are on Ebay, much less$$ than a dealer.

Yes you can find real Raptor petcocks on eBay....or you can find cheap Chinese copies that don't have the correct size fuel outlet.

Do yourself a favor....if you don't see the Yamaha part number on a white box in the listing - keep looking until you do.
