Title: disassembly headcover
Post by Thomas Högberg on 08/07/14 at 08:03:53

About to check my valves, having very low comp, 6-6,5 kg

having trouble getting the headcover loose from the head, engine still in frame.
Can´t get it over the camchain and sprocket...
this should not be a problem should it?

Yes, it is... it takes turning and wiggling just the right way to get it out...
...but, it does come out...

...(once it does... slide it back in place, and back out again a few times... you'll need to have that angle memorized to reinstall)...
;)...

What are you going to check in there?.... :-?...

In some frames (most of them) you can't get the head cover out with the engine in place. There are 2 or 3 long bolts wich don't let you do that. But you can take out the bolts (4) that keep the engine in the frame and then tilt the engine and only after that you can get the cover out.

so I will have to try again some more  ;)

I want to check my exhaust valves, they don´t seem to close as they should, loosing compression that way..

PinkHelmet, I have remowed all the bolts..  :)

I believe he maybe confusing the Head with the head cover.
There are no bolts that prevent the head cover from being removed while in the frame.
For the head, there are 4 bolts (studs) that prevent the head being removed.

Although some frames maybe tighter than others.   :-?

ended up with taking the engine out of the frame, regrinded my valves today.
Exhaust valves was not nice looking ;)

waiting for new gaskets, have a question :

how do you disassembly the cap that holds the rubber that keeps the oil from go through the valveguide?
I assume you reuse the cap.

I don't think you do, the replacement is molded together.

Ok, thanks  :)
I will wait and see how the replacements look when they arrive.
