Title: Clutch Cover Gasket
Post by demonhunter on 07/29/14 at 09:07:17

I finally got around to installing my Verslavy adjuster and need some input on whether or not I ordered the correct gasket for my clutch cover.

My old gasket does not have the small "bridge" in the oil passage areas highlighted in the photo. There are three sections to the old gasket instead of six if that makes sense. Which one is correct? Thanks.

The "bridged" gasket will work just fine.

Use it.

I'm about to replace my adjuster and am not clear on what's the best sealant to use on the clutch cover gasket, if any. What has worked best for others?

If it's a new gasket,.. don't use any RTV... (they come with seal stuff already applied around the oil passages)...
... or just a dab around that neutral wire exit...

Thanks. Gasket is new. Other than breaking off bolts that haven't been moved in a long time, which I'll be careful not to do, is there anything else that frequently goes wrong in this process? It looks fairly straightforward, but it's been 35 yeas since I did much wrenching on a bike, and I've forgotten most of what I once knew about it.

Okay,...
1. There's a funky little clutch actuator thingy, that can fall out... make sure it's in place before you button up.
2.  Remember to remove the bit of zip tie or whatever from the cam adjuster to release the spring once you have it bolted in...
...(I bought a Savage last year, and had a cam chain noise... When I opened it up, the adjuster was still compressed by the plastic bit)... ;D...
3. dab of RTV on the neutral wire exit
4. ... uhh... I don't have a 4... :-?...

Number 4 was probably the most important thing to remember.

4. Be sure you have the clutch cable little thingy that goes into the case in the right position when you put it back together, otherwise you'll have to pull the case again and set it right. PAY ATTENTION to how things come off/out so you can put them back in the same position and place (like nuts, bolts and washers...)

I thought that was listed as #1. Unless the "clutch cable little thingy" is different than the "funky little clutch actuator thingy". I'll have to check the Suzuki part numbers.

... Uhhh,... I think that's the 4. I was lookin' for... ;D...

No... I think you all are talking about the clutch shaft inch long thingy inside the engine. I'm talking about the little keeper bracket doo hickey on the outside of the engine where the clutch cable goes into the engine and there's that little arm/lever that the cable goes through... I don't know the Suzuki part number for it. I DO know that if you don't get that oriented correctly when you are putting the side cover on and cable in, you'll have to pull the cover to turn it back the right way.  :P

The clutch actuator shaft has a real cheap Oring.Just saying...
I managed to flip the cable cage after I had the cover on.
