Title: distinguished gentleman's ride
Post by gizzo on 07/27/14 at 06:28:04

Anyone in Savage land planning to do the DGR this year? It's a worldwide event for well dressed riders of classics,, cafe racers, bobbers, trackers and other custom, vintage or "interesting" motorcycles. Funds raised from the ride go toward prostate cancer research and is fun besides. Date of the ride this year is Sept 28. Check www.gentlemansride.com or facebook for a ride near you.

Gizzo,

Thanks for posting this.  I would love to ride it in it but doctors orders say I can't ride for three months.  Just in time for winter here in the US.  Got home a few days ago from having prostate cancer removed.  I was lucky, it was found early on.

What a PIA, they don't want cruisers... or is that what a quirky undefinable 2 wheel machine is?   :-?

I intended to ride in last year's edition. Sent one of Pokey's dolled up pics in (pre-dogbone risers) and the response was a very enthusiastic thumbs up. Savages are considered a geriatric throw back, same as the current crop of Royal Enfields. If you retro one out to the extent of Pokey, nobody will know that the bike isn't a fossil, pull the head chrome and it is even more convincing...

Tuck your khakis into your jackboots, grab the oldest lid you can get your hands on, and go for it.

The DGR is the only reason Pokey hasn't been set on the garage roof as a sign. I might actually have it back on the road for the 2015 version. The electrical system is way beyond fragged, it's going to need a stator assembly, reg/rec, battery... tossed in a hot battery and 1/2 the new wiring went up in smoke...  :-/

Take a look at the Facebook page and photos of past events. The Savage even with saddlebags fits right in.  To dress the part would be much harder.

Oh, no... take the shinny one.   8-)

I don't think I can have the bike vintage'd up enough in time to qualify.

Although, got a set of tins with a local arteest that may qualify... if they ever get done (hint hint poke poke)

No need to change the Savage.

I don't believe that qualifies for "ATGATT".

I"m just glad the photo was taken on the stand. Unfortunately this is the only Savage I could pick out.  Lot's of newer bikes though.

This photo from should soothe the eyes after seeing the last one.

I am thinking we should think up a new name for the "Dragon Run" that we take each summer.  Since Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride is being used, how about:  "Scruffy Guys on Cycles", or "Simple Guys Riding a Savage"?

(Shame we don't ride new Yamaha's.....We could be 'Nuts on Bolts"!

How about "Guys Thumping for Fun Run". It sounds like the Dragon run would be a lot of fun, wish I could be there.

Participating in this ride is a goal of mine!  However, I won't likely do it until I finish my '73 CB500.  I feel it's a bit more fitting for the ride.  That one is going to take a while, though...

I will say she looks better in the green skirt.. kilt than the guy on the savage.  Check out the Harley bagpipes. Must have paid three times what they are worth just for the "HD" on them.

Moderately Disturbed Gentlemen Riders

Good day, chaps! Anyone registered for the DGR as yet? If you're not planning to, how about following the link to my profile and kicking a few $$ into my bucket? I'm aiming to raise a modest $250 and if that happens, I will be wearing a tie for the first time in my life. Make sure you're a part of this momentous, never to be repeated and absolutely undoable event by donating generously to the DGR. I'm riding the disturbingly distinguished and partly disintegrating Savage bobber.
Tally Ho!

HondaLavis

Are you going to wear that same top to the Dragon riding a Honda 500F ?

You know your likely to cause some major distractions  !  Not that I think anybody would complain ...

My Wife has an outfit just like  that so It wouldn't bother me any , but who knows what effect it might have on some of the other fellers ?

That Disturbed Gentleman's Thumpin Ride  ;D
