Title: 2 wire turn signals
Post by Ap5112 on 07/24/14 at 18:11:39

Is there a way to make two wire turn signal work both as running lights and turn signals?

Nope... well, maybe with ridiculous effort and expense...
The cheaper easier way, is to change the socket to one that accepts a dual filament bulb...
...(that's what I did to get my stop/tailights)... changed from 1156 sockets to 1157 sockets...

Can you 'splian this?  If you are saying that you changed the socket on your turn signals to 1157 and used a dual filament bulb it turns the rear turn signals into running lights and they still go 'blinky blinky' when you turn on the blinker, then I wanna do this.  Seems I recall someone saying doing that was illegal...but if it is I wanna do it even more  :o

buy an old set of fronts, pull out the socket (yes it does come out), do the same with your rears, push in the new sockets.
I'm not sure you can do this with the new style bullets, but ya can with the old lolly pops.

ta da... you got 2 filly rears.  How to make it legal?  get red lenses.

kuryakyn has clear lenses, you would just need a red bulb.

Bullet lights with red glass lenses from J&P Cycles. 1007 bulb (1157 with half size globe). One wire is run, one wire is turn, grounds through the mount.

Like these, but with red lenses... http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y490/mphsgal/LISA-HP/Photos/Savage/rearcloseup_zpsb077fcb8.jpg ... yep, that's the back end of my perpetual project 98 Savage...  neighbor backed into it with a dually... :-[  :'(

All of the two wire ones I use are dual filament. The rears I usually hook the"run" side of them to my brake light,so I have 3 brake lights. And the brighter side as turn signals.

Demin, did you by chance buy those from ebay? I may need to switch my wiring if you did. I have them just as a turn right now.

I get mine through V-TWIN.But they're probably the same ones. Both wires are hot.Body of the light is the ground on these.

How would someone test these lights to figure out of they were wired for running lights or not?

Just take out the bulb and see if it has two filaments...
No bulb?... look in the socket to see if it has two contacts on the base...

In a way, one wire signals are preferable to dual wire turn signals. Especially in the smaller versions... you can buy a half size 1156 pretty much anywhere, any day, any time, for almost nothing. Half size 1157s on the other hand generally have to be ordered in at the parts store or purchased online. Either way, 99% of the time, you will be waiting for replacement 1007 bulbs.

My friends dad ended up ordering the wrong turn signals for his s50 so he gave them to me because they were the style for my bike. So I got 2 front turn signals and my back ones were not in good condition so i replaced them. So I took the running light wire and tapped into the license plate positive wire and now I have rear running lights. Its pretty easy to do. Just need wire cutters and connectors and electrical tape

Most if not all states,do not allow amber running lights in the rear.
