Title: Blew a Fork Seal Post by polarpilot on 07/24/14 at 13:00:58 My left hand fork tube blew a seal. Got it into the shop before any oil got on the disk brakes. Turns out the bushings are gone too so I am having both fork tubes done with new bushings and seals. |

Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by HondaLavis on 07/24/14 at 19:40:24 That's a shame. I hope the shop doesn't charge you too much to do them. They really aren't too difficult, and the seal kit is only $13 from AllBalls racing bearings and seals. Glad you are getting it fixed! |
Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by WD on 07/24/14 at 23:49:01 Bought Pokey in 2/98. Popped fork seals in 2/98. Bought replacement seals in 6/05. Gave them away in 2009. Fork seals still leak, lost maybe a 1/2 teaspoon in the 10 years it took me to get around to changing the fork oil... Not sure if the seals on Sam leak or not, bike has fork boots. ;D |
Title: Blew a Fork seal Post by polarpilot on 08/20/14 at 05:37:22 In the summer of 2013, somewhere I managed to blow a Fork seal. It turns out there are bushings in the forks which need replacement as well. I am having the work done in a shop and they are delayed in getting the parts. Anyone know how big a job this really is? |

Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by Dave on 08/20/14 at 06:36:33 They are most likely delayed in getting parts....because the bushings aren't really much of a wear item and most likely are not stocked by anyone. They are bathed in oil, sealed from the environment, and I don't believe they tend to wear out. It is common to replace seals....I don't believe it is very common to replace the bushings. It doesn't look like it would be a big job once you had the $ 3.00 part. Dave |

Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by polarpilot on 08/28/14 at 14:10:35 Well it took about 5 weeks from taking in Ole Yellar to yesterday when the shop called to advise that the parts did come in and are installed. Great news - The boys in the shop were a bit sceptical about working on a 1988 bike but yesterday they were crazy enthusiastic about my Savage. I have owned her since 1999 - and I like it today as much as I did the day I bought the bike. So the successful fork rebuild is terrific news |
Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by NickGann on 08/29/14 at 06:36:16 I left for two weeks, came back and now my lefty is leaking too...I guess I should order the parts, but I am still gonna ride until they get here :) |

Be careful. The oil seeps down the folk leg and may get onto the disk brakes. You pull the brake and there is no braking. That is why I had mine repaired. |
Title: Re: Blew a Fork Seal Post by NickGann on 08/30/14 at 13:56:55 Turns out there was just some grit in the seal...problemo solved. |
