Title: Least likely to be stolen
Post by Drestakil on 07/22/14 at 06:20:56

We're #1!!

I was a little surprised about the crash record of the Rebel. Considering its popularity with new riders, I thought it would be one that crashed a little more. It could be they're low speed and don't get reported that much.

Yea I bet you are correct, there are probably more 'touch downs' with Rebels that just aren't reported.

You are probably right.  Not too many reported crashes - but lots of drops and tip overs that don't get reported.

Hey! That's some good news.  Our insurance should be one of the lowest rates available for a motorcycle.

And...If they're ridin' a thumper...they gotta be bad. Don't mess with them.

At the risk of causing much offence to the forum, could it be that thieves don't consider the S40/Savage "cool"?

Tell me.  Basic liability, no comp/collision, all cover stuff I hit.  Which is going to hit harder, a 380 pound 85 mph Savage or a 245 pound 65 mph Vespa?  According to Progressive, the Vespa -- my insurance went up.

You can leave the keys in your bike and it will still be there when you come back outside.

My insurance went way up. In WA, full coverage on a modified 98 LS650 was $86 for the year. Here in TN, a mostly stock 2003 LS650 runs $164 for the exact same coverage.

Insured as a "recreational" motorcycle... I "recreate" a lot, hit 5000 miles in 3 months...  ;D

Most likely there is no "black market" for stolen Savage parts.  (Except turn signals and foot pegs).

Another thing, thieves know they can outrun cops on a sport bike. On an S40, the cops can finish their coffee and doughnuts before they even begin the chase.

And if they lose sight of the "perp".....all they have to do is listen for the "pops" and "bangs" between shifts or at shutdown.

I think Ray Stevens says it best:

"I would have you keelhauled if you weren't me own flesh and blood!"

;D    ;D    ;D

I don't know why that came into my head, but I suppose I'll have to drive my wife nuts with all my old Ray Stevens tapes now.....

Well, that explains it. I inadvertently left my garage door open one night not long ago, the key was in the S40 parked just inside. Next morning, wife shouts "You screwed up and left the garage door open all night!". I KNEW the bike was gone. Nope. Still there, keys, tool bag, full tank and ready to go, in plain sight from the street. Funny, because our neighbor lady's daughter had a $2000 Specialized Tri-Bike. She was mowing grass in back one afternoon, left the garage open, and BINGO - bike disappeared! I guess we thumpers just don't rate.

I forget and leave the key in mine all the time...

... did I say that out loud?... :-/...

I guess I'm just not that trusting. I live in a very low crime area and I still lock the steering every night.
