Title: 2004 LS650 Value
Post by laharview on 07/15/14 at 11:59:49

Hi All,
My neighbor is selling a 2004 LS650, Plum Purple Metallic with 1452 miles.  I'm interested but wondering what a fair price would be.  He bought it new but has been sitting for a year with very limited miles prior.
He's asking $2500.  I do not want to low ball him but not go overboard either.

Thanks,
Mike
Tacoma, WA

Very low mileage, original owner probably in excellent condition. Might be worth $2500 I don't know, it is a 10 year old bike. I cant see paying more than $1500-$1800.

laharview, I am sure some of the veterans here can answer you better, but for reference...

...over two years ago I got a 2008 (4 years old at that time) with 400 miles on it that was resting in a barn for ~$2200...and it included saddle bags, front bag, and windshield . Cleaned off the wasps nests and caked on dirt, changed all fluids and it literally looked and ran like it just came off the showroom floor.

If some of the folks here can advise you better on the market price and you get the bike, you'll love it.  And this forum is an excellent place for help and will save you tons of $$$ and headaches trying to deal with the dealership on anything you need...It's all right here!

Good luck!

look it up in KBB.com

but also look in craigslist for local prices for same year and mileage.

Dicker him down; NADA is $1289 - $1690.
www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles/2004/Suzuki/LS650PK4-SAVAGE-652cc/Values

Even a 2008 is only worth but NADA is $1765 - $2320, not $2500.
www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles/2008/Suzuki/S40K8-BOULEVARD-652cc/Values

And NADA is usually higher than Kelly Blue Book, at least on trucks.

Maintenance is a factor. It's cam chain time. Is it done? How does it run? I don't mean for 2minutes, I mean, will it act right after 30minutes?
I think you can do better on price and not be stabbing him. Does it come with a maintenance manual? Any spare parts?

for 2004, $2500 would be top of the market.
Here in Vancouver, used prices are ridiculously high.
I paid $2900 for '08 recently, most want $32-3500.

It's only 1,452 miles so the chain tensioner should be fine. I assume you read it at 14,520 miles :)

3 months ago I paid 2000 for a 2001 with 6000 miles, saddlebags, extra helmet, tool kit, spare bulbs, and the dude filled it with gas and drove it to my house and had his wife pick him up because I had found it while out and about wearing shorts and sandals...

It is all very dependent on location.  Where are you at?  When I picked up my '01 it had 18XX miles.  I paid $1600 in 2011.  It was clean, it ran well, and came with kuryakyn grips, a windshield, and a sissy bar.

I paid 2K for a 2007 with 1,800 miles here in Phoenix. The guy said he posted it for more a couple times and got no bites. I'd say show him the KBB and offer him 2K. With only 1400 miles you basically have a new bike, but you'll need petcock, probably tires if they are over 4-5 years old, and some of the basic mods.

Bought my 2005 a month ago...1,600 miles, bags, windscreen... zero scratches, super clean..$2100.  Looked for several months. Salt Lake City.

I'm was happy at that price.  :)  :)

The prices around here are high. That would probably be 2,000 to 2,200 around here.

Picked up this Savage a few months ago: $650 2003 non-running with out of state title and 7000 miles. There are deals out there but you have to be prepared to work on them to bring um back to life usually spending no more than a couple of hundred dollars in the process. Runs good now!
New battery, rear blinker rubber mounts, new thrust washer for starter thrust gear, replacement front left footpeg, replacement speedometer cable, exhaust clamp for fishtail muffler, replacement throttle sleeve, cleaned up carburetor and back in business. I'll probably resale this one when I'm soon done on craigslist and plan to take $1200-$1300 which I think is a fair price for a 2003.

A Savage in Tacoma? That's kind of rare... when I lived out there again from 10/01-03/11 I saw exactly 5 that I did not own, three of which belonged to former members of this forum.

If you pick it up, do not do business with the dealerships in Fircrest or Auburn. They will butt f*** you, dry, w/o kissing you first. Both are more focused on their Honda, Yamaha or Victory-Polaris customers. RMC will kick you in the nuts before bending you over...  >:(

Low miles, if the condition is decent $1800, tops.

Met a guy down here yesterday on his way home with a nearly flawless one of 600, late 1950s, rigid framed, 100% original mil-spec Triumph 500cc p-twin. That ran. He picked it up for $700 cash...  :o

I let my excitement get the better of me, and I payed $1700 for a 1995. If I had found this forum earlier, I would have negotiated or found a better deal.

YOW! A good reason to cruise craigslist and have a slush fund of cash between the mattresses! Wow.

Seems a bit high to me. I got my 2007 in 2011 with under 2k miles for $2200 including cover and saddlebags. Good condition with some minor wear and tear (bit of cover had melted onto pipe, steering column lock key lost). Good luck OP.

Sounds like everyone agrees the price is high. I just picked up my '08 with 1800 miles for $2500 and that was at the beginning of riding season.
Careful doing business with a neighbor, too. It can sour a relationship.
