Title: Bobber Fender Mounting
Post by JohnsonLager on 07/11/14 at 10:31:03

I'm looking to get a discussion going about mounting my rear fender.  I have found a few threads discussing the matter, but fell short on several with pictures, either a lack or expired.
I'm debating how I am going to mount the rear fender, nothern tools trailer fender, either to the frame with spacers or to the swing arm.  I plan on putting a sissy bar on and it's important that I can have a passenger back there for short distances (30 miles)
I saw a post discussing side mount headlight brackets, but would be interested in seeing pictures of installation.  It seems to me, frame mounting with spacers is pretty straight forward (primary concern is bottoming out) and swing arm mounting with a sissy bar is slightly more difficult just because it would require brackets or welding.
Any tips and pictures are appreciated. Thanks

If you want to keep the rear suspension, then mount to the frame. If you want to go hardtail or struts, then either would be fine.

With a suspension, a swingarm mounted fender would throw a passenger around with every bump. Not only would it be uncomfortable for the passenger, in the worst case it could throw off your balance and be dangerous, I'd think.

Deciding if you want to keep the suspension is the first thing, 'cuz with a hardtail or struts, you have more options.

Just read your other thread. You say no hardtail? Mount to the frame. Your passenger will thank you!

Yeah,if you're gonna have a passenger,the swing arm thing won't work.

The headlight bracket method is on one of my bikes, that runs a full fender. The rear support for said fender is the extended exhaust...

The chrome "thing" under the frame at the front of the fender is the bracket. The rear black bracket is off a VN800A, started out as a rear reflector mount.  ;D
