Title: Damaged Cam Lobe
Post by rickj on 07/09/14 at 20:07:23

Exhaust cam lobe is scoured on the peak and just beyond.  Can it be repaired?  It's not very deep.

is it scoured or just pitted?

pitted can be ignored for awhile.

if it scoured, check you oiling up there.

and you can send it to webcams to get welded, maybe even pick out a new profile.

Maybe a picture?

Yep, we need a picture.  Also check the rocker, as they tend to wear the same as the cam and when one is damaged....the other most likely will be also.

If it is worn.....Webcam can weld it and make a nice Stage 1 cam for you, and they can hardweld the rockers as well.

I see in another post that you have replaced the cam chain....am I to assume that the bike is not yet completely assembled, and this is something you found while the bike is still apart?

Just for your info, new rockers are less costly than a hard weld on the old set.  The hard weld is the better way to go if you are having the cam reground with a better profile, but new standard rockers are still ok to use.  It's just what you want to do and what your budget can support.

Lancer.

Yea...I probably wasted $ 200 getting mine hardwelded.  Webcam says to get them hardwelded....so I did.  I sent the rockers that only had 1,200 miles on them.....DOH!

No, not wasted, you have a better set of rockers on it now.  It's a good investment if you have the $$ to work with.  You can smile and talk real sweet into it's ear and remind it how much you love it.    8-)
