Title: Ryca speedo/ tach or Acewell 2853
Post by Jeff71 on 07/09/14 at 15:26:56

For the CS-1 conversion, what do you guys think; the speedo and tach from Ryca or the Acewell 2853? Any experiences with the 2853? Thanks!
Jeff

Just googled the Acewell.  I've never heard of it but it looks really nice.  How much and where are you buying it?

Never heard of it before, but Googled it. I would think ACE-2803 due to the fact that you don't need a gas light, unless you found a way to put a float in the tank... (Then let me know!

I also thought http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=600/category_id=560/home_id=-1/mode=prod/prd600.htm, but thought it was too digital for the look I wanted.

Kind of feeling http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vintage-cafe-racer-caferacer-bobber-brat-chopper-custom-motorcycle-electronic-parts-mini-chrome-white-face-speedo-speedometer-490291.html.

We'll see.. Let me know what you do.

The gauge is available at Dime City and Ebay. I'm sure others carry it too. I just wonder if it will work with the single cylinder.

Those gauges that Ryca offers and you can buy other places are pretty crappy.  They do the job, but mine and my friends only lasted a year or so before they bounce all over the place and then the needed just spins, then it snaps off.  For the price I guess its not that bad.

In comparison though, my brother bought the Acewell for his bike and it is extremely well built.  Its very nice.  It takes some programming but it is way way better than the $50 gauges.  It looks great and the size is perfect.  He has this one, I highly recomend it.

It may take some figuring to get the speedo input though.  They have signal transducers and that may not be straight forward for the Savage.

I should mention that I made the mount and installed the Acewell for my brother. Its not just experience of seeing it. It was super easy to wire up as well.  I just dont know about the long term durability and performance of it.  But it is built well and looks great.

An Acewell it is then. Just will need to figure out a mounting plate. ;)

By the way, this is where I first heard of the Acewell.  This bike is gorgeous!

Contacted Dime City. Brian said that the gauge is universal and fully programmable so it should work with the single cylinder.

Only issue is that our speedo is gear driven and the acewell is electronic input.  They sell a few tranducers to give you a pulse signal, but you may have to come up with something custom if they dont make one to fit our speedo cable/port.

From what I see, the Acewell uses a magnet and sensor just like the Trailtech.  You need to mount the sensor on the fork leg and a magnet on the brake disc or wheel hub....then calibrate the speedo for your tires size.

My Trailtech Vapor works fine - other than I have not been able to get the tach to read steady and it always jumps around a bit. The rpm readings spike during acceleraton and it triggers the rpm warking and redline lights even before you reach those settings.  Also the digial dash indicator lights are barely visible in direct sunlight.  This round gauge might have a better look than  the Trailtech....wonder if I could recess the Acewell into the back if my headlght bucket.....Hmmmm? :-?
