Whats the adverage milage on a stock engine before installing a versy tentioner. Im at 8500 and hearing noises?

Your mileage may vary.....it is the opinion of this forum that the number of heat cycles are a big factor.  Someone that takes long rides after starting the bike up will get more mileage on the cam chain than someone that takes 10 minute rides around town.

I believe 12,000 miles is a common number where you should consider opening up the clutch cover to take a look - but it really does depend on how the bike was ridden.

Take a look at the adjuster thread. There should a link to the adjuster life thread.
If you're hearing knocking on the clutch case. Better look at it soon.
