Title: Education
Post by MnSpring on 06/30/14 at 15:58:47

This morning took the S-40 (via trailer, about 10 miles), to have the new tires put on.  (A Good  Guy, local, all sports repair shop, don't sell new, just fix things, AW-SUM  place, if your into old Snowmobiles, or Jet Skies).

Got their just a little before the 'tire', wrencher got their, so was talking to one of the guys.  He was asking about this S-40,  as he said he doesn't see many.  Anyway, this guy was asking a lot of questions.  So I thought, (Yes it is a VERY Dangerous thing).
Why not give him some Info?

So after running around to pick up some other part for a Lawn Mower.

Stopped at home, printed off the info on the Oil & Zink additives.
Also info on the, "Cam Chain' Tighter, with just 3 photos,  Factory/Bad factory/Modified one. Then went back to pick it up.

What should have been a  5-10 min, 'pay, load, and leave'!
Turned into a 40 Min, 'seminar', about what I learned from this forum !

Had the Owner, his son, a MC, Tire  guy, a MC Engine guy, (He KNEW), and the G.M.  all raptly listening.

So, perhaps, (if you are so inclined). Document/Print, some of the Vary Valuable information from this forum. And if your,  'local' person you go to, is interested in hearing it. They may learn also. And maybe, just maybe, they are, 'adult' enough, to want to learn more.

Just a thought !

You were lucky, there would be plenty who maintain they know it all.

It's nice to hear that they were actually interested instead of having the 'I know it all' attitude that many mechanics/professional repairmen have   :)

I agree with the other replies.
Keep this shop in mind to help with those repairs you can't do yourself, or like you already did, to put new shoes on the scoot to save you the hassle.  Not to say they are the best to work on a bike they don't see often nor have the experience to do so, but the fact that they listened rather than brush you off is a very good sign of some folks not done learning.
'Cuz, in the end, nobody is done learning.

Everyone I meet knows something I don't.
