Title: Handlebars?
Post by humblegeo on 06/28/14 at 18:41:07

I need to replace the handlebars on a 2003 savage. It has ape hanger chopper bars on it that previous owner tried to add on and the cables are too short and just not for me. Found several on ebay but for different year models than mine. Question I have is will all year models work on my 2003? I was looking at a 1997 handlebar

you just need handle bars that are 1" in diameter.

Alot of bars will fit as long as the cables are long enough

I think he was asking about stock bars.Yes all years interchange. And yes there are a lot of aftermarket bars that look good.Like Yoshi said ,as long as they are 1" diameter.Just becareful.if you have the short risers that came with buckhoen(pullback)bars drag bars will hit the tank. You have to put taller risers on for drag bars.
This is my '86 that came factory with drag bars.

This is my '87.Came stock with buckhorns.Look at the difference in the risers between the two.

I have the stock ones off my 2003 sitting on the work bench. I run Harley FL bars. PM me if you want an actual 2003 set for your bike, they are slated to get sent in the next scrap run.

Not to hijack the thread, but this fits with a question I have about handlebars as well. I have a 2001 and the handlebars on it are a weird sort of slant...for my wrists it's fairly uncomfortable...any ideas on a good set of straighter bars?

Stock drag bars as mentioned in the above post.  They're great but keep the riser issue in mind.
