Title: 1987 suzuki savage 650 oil weights ? Post by squirrel83ms on 06/28/14 at 18:13:48 What weight of oil do y all use I bought this bike the previous owner used only 20 50 I went back to 10w40. Now I have a oil leak from my exhaust I used high temp gasket maker to try and seal it there was no gasket in there. I was just wondering if I should go back to the heavier oil would that make a difference bike is old with 14000 miles on it? |

We recommend Shell Rotella diesel oil, or a good motorcycle oil if it has 1200ppm ZDDP... Where exactly is the oil leak?... or is it pumping out the exhaust?.... |

Post by Dave on 06/29/14 at 13:07:29 We had one member who thoroughly cleaned the area to get all the oil off the parts, and then applied high temperature silicone to the bottom of the plug, and had good results on a temporary basis. We have not had an update on how long it worked..... There is a local forum member here with a plug leak that I might try to talk into trying this approach......so we can see it it works. Dave |

Post by WD on 06/29/14 at 23:22:47 I run straight 30W and my 2003 still leaks like a 1964 Triumph Bonneville or any Dodge full sized truck made before 1994. I quit worrying about the leaks. I've had it less than 2.5 months and it will hit 4K "me" miles in a day or two... My 1998 with 25K and change on it didn't leak at all. No speedometer cable. Which is where 95% of the gunk built up on Savages comes from. |
