Despite Intel's clamoring for Chromebooks/boxes to pick up a whole lot more off-line functionality and need some huge internal  processing power (because Intel's new chipsets have all that in abundance) and HP and several other vendors putting out brand new large screen Android laptops (and the Chinese forks giving their Android full multi-person log ins and fully movable resize-able windows) Google has announced they will stay their two pronged course for 2014-2015.

Android will be for touch screen mobile devices and Google Chrome OS will be for laptops and desktop boxes.

Chromebooks/boxes will pick up the ability to run more and more Android apps though.   Google is letting the Chrome people pick which ones they want blended into Chrome OS first because Google intends to do a good job of it, not a hack job like the Chinese have done with some of their stuff.

The Chinese are NOT using Google Chrome OS on their new wave of Chromeboxes and Books, they are using open source Chromium Project software (Hexxa's old stuff) as their starting point.   The Chinese do not use Flash, they won't use Google's Playstore and their government and Google do not get along for much at all right now.

Intel is still being a big buddy for Chromebooks and Boxes right now, since they see MS still having nothing for them to base on at this point in time.

The shipping numbers for Chromebooks and boxes are still going up out the roof and so far MS can't even get folks to take their free Bing'd up Win 8.1 version for free (and they had to let the Chinese steal the un-Binged real version to get them to even steal it).

Chromebooks remain a product that can still run well off a 2 year old dual core A-9 processor, with the Google Server Farms acting as the background processing grunt to do all the complex or heavy lifting tasks.

This format keeps Google front and center, keeping everybody dependent on Google in other words.

Look to see the Chinese lead everyone in the Far East away from this model, offering stronger processors and more "independent processor" software products.

Google's recent hiring of Hexxa was likely quite intentional, as it acts to slow down Chromium open source project's momentum since Hexxa is working on the main Google product now as his full time money job.

Look to see Samsung and Intel bring Tizen over to a laptop product, doing the same sorts of "independent processor" things based on their own Tizen software store.

Microsoft still hasn't got anything people really want right now, and if this remains so all through 2015 then they will have forfeited their position in the OS marketplace pretty much completely.

We are due a new OS from Microsoft "any day now" ........       ;)
