Title: Cam tensioner wear length or chain sound
Post by uv on 06/23/14 at 07:09:28

I have a 2005 w/11k miles. I measured the tensioner which is at 17mm. No bends or elbowing. I figured I have another couple of thousand miles left on it. However the other day I saw the youtube video of that demonstrated the sound of a loose chain which is supposed to indicate that its time to do something about the chain or the tensioner. I do hear the distinct clack-clack in idle mode on my bike also. Should I still go by tensioner length or do I need to do something now?

thanks

I think 17mm and 11.000 miles is close enough to just go ahead and put the versy in.
Especially if you've still got the cover off. Why do the work twice ?

While 18mm is the recommendation, every bike/owner is different.
if it clacks like a duck...   ;D

Why tempt fate unless you have a lot of money under your mattress to throw at a munched motor gamble on one millimeter...
