Title: worse case with crank case cover? Post by JRLeathercraft on 06/19/14 at 18:49:31 If indeed I tighten the screws too  much  on the crankcase cover when replacing the tensioner, what are the possible problems? Do i need to order new bolts or am I just screwed? Jay

I don't know if they make a "case saver" insert that small. Either way you're looking at some machine shop work. There's other folks here who know machine shop stuff pretty dang good... They'll probably know a real answer.

Post by S-P on 06/19/14 at 19:10:34 If they're not completely stripped out in the case, sometimes you can run a tap the correct size and just kind of dress up the threads, but you REALLY have to be careful to not overtighten again. They WILL strip out. If the bolt isn't spinning in the hole, you still have threads. Try to keep 'em. As the "Famous Dave" keeps posting: 1/4" ratchet, two fingers on the wrench, seat the bolt and go slow, FEEL the bolt, use the Force...

If you didn't strip the aluminum case,... you couldn't have stripped the steel bolts...  could you?... Why new bolts?... Tighten holding the head of the ratchet, not the handle... and use wrist only... no arm power.... That's the safe way to tighten any bolts that go into aluminum threads... It's not a law or anything... :-?...
