Title: Electric Harley ? Post by oldNslow on 06/19/14 at 05:09:03 http://www.cycleworld.com/2014/06/19/harley-davidson-livewire-electric-motorcycle-first-ride-review-photos-video/ |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by Serowbot on 06/19/14 at 06:20:52 Harley knows their demographic... practically the first thing they tell you is... "It may be electric, but it's not silent"... Harley fans are asking,... "What do I have to drill out, to make it louder?"... :-?... ;D... |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by Pine on 06/19/14 at 10:13:09 Looks like they built a nice one. |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by old_rider on 06/19/14 at 10:50:56 First they come out with the 500/750 street, and now the "Livewire" all electric. Guess the stodgey old guys have left and a newer idea group has stepped in and paved a new road for Harley. Hope its under $20k , which would stretch it for me, but I might trade in something..... i'm not planning on any more long road trips on the bikes anymore. I'll buy a trailer for two and we can go ride anywhere we want while getting there in comfort. |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by Serowbot on 06/19/14 at 11:02:28 Where do you put the saddlebags and trunk, and chrome stuff?... :-/... Jes' kidding,.. it does look pretty cool for an E-bike... ;D... |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by oldNslow on 06/19/14 at 11:03:28 old_rider, These guys have been around for a few years now. Still kinda pricey, but well under 20k. Most of the reviews I've seen have been pretty positive. http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/ |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by old_rider on 06/19/14 at 11:15:02 Yeah, I have been following them for awhile....and the bikes are getting more hour/mile battery life every year. I have been contemplating getting one or simply playing around in the garage and making one, but i'm a mechanic, not an electrical engineer. There is also a company that has a motor that fits in the tire rim itself.... http://www.proteanelectric.com/en/video-gallery/efficient-packaging/?img=555&gal=554 http://www.proteanelectric.com/en/video-gallery/efficient-packaging/?img=553&gal=552 When they start putting these on motorcycles it could prove revolutionary. Your whole bike body would be a battery, while your wheel will hold the drive train.... crazy huh? |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by HAPPYDAN on 06/19/14 at 12:39:49 Looks like H-D is on the right track. No doubt we'll see more of these in the future. A few weeks ago, while trail hiking on DNR land, an electric dirt bike, aka L-ION, came up the trail behind me. All I heard was sticks and gravel crunching. I thought it was - well, something big other than a motorbike. Drew my Gerber and got ready for action. What a shock! We met up later, had lunch and I got a complete rundown. Very well-made, a real work of art. But, as he confided, the GASpers (a newly coined term for people who ride/drive gasoline powered vehicles?) give him a hard time! ;D |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by JRLeathercraft on 06/19/14 at 19:01:33 Sign of the times. At least they are looking to the future and trying to survive in a rapidly changing world. |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by gizzo on 06/20/14 at 00:00:38 That actually looks pretty cool. Unlike that awful street 750 thing. |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by oldNslow on 06/20/14 at 06:21:29 Next weekend the local Harley store is having an open house/intro event for the 500 and 750 Streets. I'm going to ride over and take a look at them in person. The blurb on the website didn't say anything about test rides but I'm hopin' :) I actually think they're pretty good looking bikes, except for the radiator shroud. I'd have left the plastic off and just let the radiator sit in the open. Why hide it? |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by Badass94Cad on 06/20/14 at 11:23:46 The LiveWire has been receiving a lot of coverage, and the interwebz comments are absolutely hilarious! Stuff like: - It'll still leak oil - Can't wait to see one with ape hangers and tassels - First accessory - chrome battery - Needs an audio soundtrack that can be blipped at stop lights You get the picture... ;D |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by old_rider on 06/20/14 at 11:32:52 I personally think this will draw a new crowd to Harley... squids...yup, young street bike riders, getting rid of their supersports and buying electric. I fill up the savage about twice a week, I live 16 miles from town center in each direction and drive there five days out of seven on average. I would only have to charge it up once a week.....well, maybe twice if I showed off with it... Ok, for the first year, I would have to charge it twice a week...LOL ;D |
Title: Re: Electric Harley ? Post by Boofer on 06/22/14 at 20:21:22 Folks, I hate to say this, but I like the looks of the HD 750-500 in pictures. And I just read today about the LS 218. Electric with more horsepower than any Mc. Model number comes from the first model which set a record for electric bikes and a one way run of 218 mph. They $38,000. :) |
