Title: Solo seat for metric bike
Post by neyuru on 06/17/14 at 21:52:19

I've been looking for a solo seat replacement in a brand-new s40. As you all know, the newer versions come with one-piece seats. It seems most (if not all) seat replacements found in USA (even the "generic" ones) are not meant for metric bikes:

is this true?  :-/ if not,
is there any company that offers a solo seat replacement for the s40 to be installed without modifications?  :-?

You could buy a front seat from an earlier bike that used a 2 piece seat.  And with the money you save by getting a used one....you could have a new cover made in any color you want!

Bolts on to the gas tank mount.Take the original seat tab off and bolt this on.It is a universal hinge kit.About 30 bucks.Go to your local aftermarket bike shop and they usually have them in stock or can get them. Then bolt the seat to it...Done.

Hi Demin: some questions:

1) Is your bike an older or newer version? (came with the two piece seat or the one piece seat)
2) related to the question above: are the two versions similar in the seat configuration? (equal screw placings etc). I ask this beacuse there is a ryca tear down for the CS-1 conversión but uses the old s40 in their video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ6ZwiYr_w4).
3) I've found some bracket mounting kits (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_kw=motorcycle+seat+mounting+kit) in ebay, but they are clasiffied as 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch and so on... what is the correct sizing for a s40?, and lastly...
4) does it matter what solo seat you are using? does the universal hinge kit "universalize" the most common solo seats found in market? (for use with the s40, that is)

Hello Dave: I infer from this that older seats fit perfectly into newer bikes?

Ok.To answer these in the same order.
1)They are the older version. But the newer ones still have the same front mount.
2)I think I answered it in one.But the orange bike is an '86 and the green bike is a '00.Same bolt pattern.
3)This is the clamp I use to bolt it to the stock mounting bolts.

4)No the slots in the hinge fit a variety of brands/sizes.
