Title: new guy here
Post by timmyboy85 on 06/17/14 at 19:45:56

What's up fellow savage heads :-) My name is Tim and I just started riding and the proud owner of a 2001 Sav that i'm eventually going to bob out. The previous owner fixed that common head leak and shi**y petcock. I'm eventually going to change the cam chain tensioner (its ticking bad). I was just wondering where is the best place online to order original or NOS parts for these bikes. Thanks and im sure ill have more questions.

Welcome!  I've had good luck with Partsfish http://www.partsfish.com/
Ebay is a decent source for used odds and ends, and there is a "Marketplace" on the forum. Sometimes folks here have stuff laying around that they'll let go cheap if you post what you're looking for. The other thing I'd suggest is find your local bike junkyard. I've picked up some good stuff for dirt cheap at the one in my city. You can also check with some local bike shops, sometimes they have junk motors they'll part out.

Get a new tensioner from Verslagen on this site.Read about his mods.DO NOT go buy a stock one and expect to fix the problem. There have been a couple threads recently about this.Read up and save yourself some grief.

Welcome Tim. I've had good luck with finding parts and diagrams on cheapcycleparts.com and on bikebandit.com, but for inexpensive used parts, the marketplace here is good as is ebaymotors.com.

Welcome new dude.  www.bikebandit.com is an excellent source for parts as well.  If you are a member of the AMA you get a 10% discount off everything everyday.  Jump in, the water is fine.

Don't wait in the tensioner, and don't buy a stock one. It'll be a waste of money and you need a mod one after the chain has stretched.

It's not a bad job, but I wish I had a spring clip tool! Got one now.

I just reordered the gasket cover as I think I damage it by thightening too much and it's leaking pretty bad.
