I bought and installed a Dyna muffler.
It is very loud.
That does not bother me, except I read here on the Forum that a straight through exhaust is not the best.
Now, I cannot find the post that described how to put a block half way down the Dyna...yes, mine is straight through...can see nothing inside except what looks like cheese grater on the sides.
Can anyone post the link to how to re-install the block?
I want to re-jet, but not until the exhaust is correct.

I believe the Freeze (expansion) plug size you need is 1-1/4" diameter.

You just drive it down the inlet side of the muffler until it is located between the 2 sets of holes in the pipe (egual number of hole on both sides).

By two sets of holes, do you mean the inlet and outlet?
So, the freeze plug will be basicly in the center of the Dyna muffler?

Yea....halfway down the pipe. If it is a real DYNA...you might be able to see the remnants of the original one....where is was spot welded in the pipe.

The inlet exhaust is supposed to pass halfway down the pipe, then travel out the holes and into the shell. Then after "bouncing" around in the shell a bit....the exhaust is supposed to go through the rear set of holes an back into the pipe....where it can then go out the back of the muffler.

Hmmmmmm...I understand what you are saying.
Somebody "modified" this Dyna I bought.
If you look through it...it is an open pipe with "rough" sides...like a cheese grater.
But you can see through it...no obstructions at all.
Will the freeze plug do the trick? Or do I need to get another Dyna?

Try the freeze plug,.. if it can be lodged in the center and not blow out the other end,.. it will be just as good as an unmolested muffler...

If the muffler is old and worn,... the plug will shred the internal sides as it travels down the pipe...
Worth a try... before shelling out for another anyway... ;)...

Be sure to hammer the plug in from the muffler inlet end...

Right...got it.
Will post up before and after pics and the results.
Not able to do anything to it for a couple of weeks...fixing to work the next 12 days before getting 2 days off....12 hour shifts no less.
But at least I get to ride 35 miles a day!!
This LS Savage is the best cycle I have ever owned!
I grew up in Germany, and fell in love with BSA GoldStar Thumpers, and the Norton Manx. As a teenager, I used to watch them race at Hockenheim.
This is better by far!!

Well, It shouldnt be, HD Dynas arent horribly loud..
Theyre 103 CID,,So, they have 2 mufflers handling 51.5 inches apiece.
The Savage is 40 CID,, so the muffler should be well able to handle that amount of exhaust gas & not be loud..A Dyna muffler, well,, a stock one, has a nice note to it. Neighborhood friendly

We figured out that the guts have been removed.
Dave has suggested a way to get it back to where it ought to be.

You can always pick up a universal baffle, cut off the end that is too large to fit, and have it welded inside. I am going to try that myself. The stock muffler is too quiet and without the plug is too loud.

I installed an unmodified Dyna last night and when I fired up the bike, I thought, "oh crap, that's gonna be way too loud". Rode to work this morning and it's actually perfect.

Unmodified Hardly Driven muffs are fine for the muted crowd when you can find them. Just slightly louder than stock.

But a lot are drilled or knocked out before getting replaced.

You are correct Dave 1 1/4" is the size I used, none of the regular auto parts stores here had it in stock I found it at a local place that supplies a lot of the NASCAR teams. I used a piece of pipe and just hammered it into place, it's been there for over a year and hasn't budged at all.
