hiii everybody, i just bought a savage, its a sick bike but i hate the buckhorn handlebars.it is a stock 2003 savage 650, came with the buck horn bars on it. I really like those z bars that you see on some bikes. I was wondering how big of bars do you think i could out on the bike without having to change the stock cables. z bars that is. also maybe mini apes. how big can i go? also if anyone has any advice on what to do with the stock exhaust pipe.

Usually around 10".You might have to reroute them a little.

Well, I went with 12" apes but had to change out the clutch cable. The brake line is tight but seems to be ok.

Absolute maximum for stock cables is 13.5" rise apehangers, assuming you start with a Savage that shipped with buckhorn bars. Significant rerouting is required, replacement cables are suggested...

My 1998 wore apehangers for over a decade. It now has FL touring bars in 6 or 8 inch dogbone risers, in the stock base risers.

My 2003 has the same FL bars in 2 inch riser extensions, in the stock base risers.

thanks, you guys are the nuts...like what you've done with the bikes..ill look into it..

p.s if anyone is riding near lake tahoe and feels like tripping into reno for a beer, the savage way, let me know, beautiful ride.
