Title: "Crap-Gas"
Post by MnSpring on 06/10/14 at 18:48:25

Crap gas = Ethanol in gas.  (In my view)

First, I use, ‘crap gas’, in lawn mowers, and cars, that I use ever day, that were DESIGNED for it.
ONLY,  Non-Oxy, gas goes into ANY of my, oil/gas mix, ICE. (Internal Combustion Engine)
And anything Older than 1995.
And!  Last 2 tanks, on the lawn mowers, are, Non Oxy, with stabilizer,
as they sit for 5-6 sometimes 7, months. (Minn)

Now, when was the ’Thumper’, ICE for the LS-650/S-40 designed?
(I think it was 1985/86).  In 1986, what kind of gas was available?
It was, 50/50, Leaded/Unleaded, and  NO Ethanol !!!!

So, That ICE, is, Designed for use, with probably un leaded gas.
NOT for 10% Ethanol.

What changed in 1990?  Ethanol gas started appearing,
and with it,  ALL   SORTS of problems. With  ANY  ICE running it.

By 1995 - 2000, the ICE manufactures had it sorted out,
and delivered units with, ‘correct’, hoses,/diaphragms/pumps/etc.
And they changed the carbonation/air impute/mufflers, to compensate,
for the E-10 gas.

By 2003, All, ‘reg’ gas was E-10.  And one had to, ‘look’ for,  “Non Oxy” gas, for older ICE units.

I ask again, out side of the Carb settings, Hoses, Diagrams, etc.
What part of a ICE, (LS650/S-40), that was designed over 28 years ago,
has been, (RE-designed),  for E-10, (or E-15 which is coming soon)

So:  Ideal would be a ’Non-Oxy”  87/88 oct gas.
NO One makes it. But they do make, 91/92 oct,, ’Non-Oxy’, gas.
And it Can be found!
(I Think), better to suffer the performance issues of, high oct, ’Non-Oxy” gas,
(And, ‘tweak',  the bike to run better with it),
than to suffer, the added 10-15% of Ethanol to a  ICE, that was NEVER designed for it.
(Can you say:  ‘Planned Obsolescence”)

If you have read this this far, you are thinking:
“Wow, this guy really hates ethanol”.
Well, you would be wrong!!!!!!!!!

In 1975, re did,  a tractor lawn mower, (Koler 18 hp),
to run on  STRAIGHT, Alcohol.
It was Great !!!!!  In the late 70’s,  had a PU truck converted to LP gas.
Again it was GREAT !  (Of course could NOT start ether of them when it was 0 F out)

Neither of those ICE’s,  were, ‘Designed’ for the propellent  used.
They were, retro-fitted, and changed.

But to have a ICE, Designed for NO Ethanol,
and  have, Ethanol, “Shoved Down Your Throat ”,
Is just plan WRONG.

Now, you want to fill up at the gas station, and run whatever they are pumping. Great.
I will run, ’non-oxy’ and, ’tweak’ to run.
Difference is, I don’t care, what you want to run.
But some people want to make a, ‘ law’,  about it,
“You  WILL Use  E10-15”

Do you know.  The FFA, has, BANNED, ANY AND ALL Use,
of ANY Ethanol biased fuel, in ANY  Airplane !!!!!!

Butt, Gee,  it’s good enough for you.
Whether you know it or not !!!!!!!!!!

Do this: Next time you fill gas, (with Ethanol), put a some in a glass jar.
Any Jar, does not matter it is it 2 oz or 2 gal.
Set that jar on a shelf in your garage,
don’t move it, then 30 days later, tell me what you see !!!!!!

... and if you do that, please don't put it in the sunlight or you may see the remains of your garage after it has burned to the ground.

Been there......doing that.  It took 50 days for the Premium to show phase separation.  The neighbors all bring their lawn equipment for me to fix when it stops - and most of the time it is an issue with being stored with ethanol fuel in the tank.

I have to drive 1.5 hour to find a gas station that sells fuel without ethanol - so I take a 55 gallon drum when I go.  I use the fuel in my lawn equipment and 55 gallons will last me a year.

Here is the float bowl from an old Craftsman lawn tractor a neighbor brought me last week.  Typical ethanol fuel corrosion to aluminum - white powdery corrosion with no trace of any varnish or gum.

When I dropped the bowl after allowing the gas to evaporate a few times I found a green glob, not solid, kinda a loose jelly like crud,, green, like something youd see after a liver flush, bile colored.
Yea, thats gross,, sorry..
