Title: Rebuilding my Savage Post by Xandraelle on 06/07/14 at 15:41:57 So I was stupid and blew the engine. Had to rebuild it minus the crankcase. I was wondering what all I need to watch out for. I already have the cylinder head on and it turns over well and I am 99% sure i have it timed correctly. Problems arised though. It was raining and some rain got into the cylinder head and when i turned it over it came out, no more will come out though except for maybe a couple specks. Its a really gross brown too. Do I need to take my head off again to clean it out? Also rain isn't the only thing that got in their. A couple of really small pieces of some really thin bark got in their and they are smaller than your fingernail. When I crank the engine over will they burn and turn into ash and get taken out of the exhaust or do I need to take the head off for that as well? -frustrated owner |

If you have the tool set that came with the bike, there is a plug socket in there that will work. |
Title: Re: Rebuilding my Savage Post by Xandraelle on 06/07/14 at 18:13:49 I wish I had the tool but sadly I don't. I need a place online to order it from too as going into town to order it isn't going to work. Know any good sites I can get one? Looked at it on google but wasn't sure about some of them. I have already ordered one that didn't fit. |

A hardware store that caries small engine tools and parts should have one. Also, check the plumbing section - a similar tool is used for sink faucet installation. Bring your calipers. |

Title: Re: Rebuilding my Savage Post by justin_o_guy2 on 06/07/14 at 21:38:36 Take a blower & put a piece of 1/8th brass tubing on it, Blow on top of the piston & try to make the airflow develop "Headin OUt the plug hole",, that can carry stuff away,, YOu can fish the little bits out with wire & a dab of grease.. Sure would suck to spin it over & jam somethjing into the rings & mess them up,.., |
Title: Re: Rebuilding my Savage Post by Xandraelle on 06/08/14 at 16:06:34 Ended up having a friend come over and just took the head off and I am glad I did. It was actually quite full of water. I still need to find a good spark plug socket and the spark plug is a ways down a hole so it will need a thinwall deep socket but where can I find one? Anyone have one that they bought and works well? |

I got a deep socket set from HF and it works just fine. It looks the same size as the ones they sell at the auto store. |
