Title: Yamaha petcock fell apart
Post by Greg on 06/07/14 at 07:53:39

I was removing my tank to adjust my valves and when pulling off the fuel line, the brass nipple came out of the petcock. There are none local. If I cram it back in there, do you think it will work until a replacement arrives?

if it goes in tight and doesn't leak, just keep an eye on it until the new one arrives..
was it an actual Yamaha or clone of the Yamaha?

If it comes out again clean the port it goes into & put some marks on it( the insert) that would slide in easy, but not out,, & a thin dose of JB weld,,

This is not all that uncommon....I have had it happen before on the little brass nipples on carb vent lines, and also the fuel line nipple.

Yep....jam it back in, and a little JB weld or permanent thread locker can help.

I never thought to use JB Weld. Oh well, the new has been ordered. I guess I can make this one a spare.

JB takes too long to set, at your auto parts store are some metal filled 5 minute liquid epoxies that would do just fine.

:D

Can you even imagine all the carb cleaning and rejetting and stuff that people did 5 years ago,  all the pain and agony and all the bikes that got sold due to pure frustration.

5 years ago we did not know the vac petcock was a primary cause of "various odd stuff".

Mebbe the onslaught of alky gas is the real cause of the start of its self-destructive ways.   Me, I think it has caused trouble all along and just wasn't fingered as the source.

Perk up you trouble shooters, you -- E85 nationwide is on the way.   Midwestern congressmen are pressing for it as we speak.

Regular will quickly become E85 and all the old cars will self-scrap themselves.

You think thats not the goal? Well, that And handing already millionaire farmers even MORE subsidies for NOT planting food crops ( gee, is food costing more?) & planting ever more GMO crap corn to turn to gasoline, destroying water supplies to pretend we are saaaving the planet,, give me a break,,

Buying any crap ethanol added gas.
Is Just like, walking into a bank,
with two one dollar bills,
and they give you back 7 quarters,
and say: "Hey we are giving you a deal".
