Title: White spacer size? (bought #4 but was to big?)
Post by doh13 on 06/03/14 at 18:32:54

Hi i went to the hardware store to pick up some #4 washers to replace the white spacer and they were too big to replace the white spacer what did I do wrong? I measured the white spacer outer diameter  and it was about 1/4  inch outer diameter so i am assuming that's the size i need?  :-?

Not sure what went wrong. If you still have the white spacer take it with you, and maybe the needle to be sure the washers fit over it. You can always sand the white spacer down on a piece of 220 sandpaper on a flat surface.

Maybe he got metal washers and not nylon? Is there a difference in sizing?

Well there's my problem lol. The dang nylon washers are hard to come by around my area I looked at 3 places locally and nothing I am going to have my friend check home depot tomorrow if he gets the chance if not out comes the sand paper. Thanks a lot for the info.

Home Depot has a section with drawers of offbeat and metric stuff. Don't look in the main aisle with all the little bags of screws, nuts, bolts and washers. In that section there is a rack of gray drawers with little trays that have all kinds of nylon, rubber and metric fasteners, bolts, washers etc. They might have them in there.

stack 'm up on a screw, pinch 'm with a nut, chuck in a drill press and file to size.

Or go to Lowes, much better hardware selection than Home Despot.

I decided to just sand down the white spacer instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find the correct washer here in the boonies...  ;D. I took off .5 mm of the 2.5 MM spacer which equals to a little less than 1/3 . I wanted to take less rather than more.

Anyways I took the bike for a test run with the bad float installed (waiting on new float) stock jets/air filter and air screw set to 2 turns and it  worked really well with no back firing and it seemed to pull smoothly when i came on to the throttle even though this is the first time i have ridden a savage so I am not sure what I should expect but i was happy with the way it was running, hell i was happy it was even running after setting for over 7 years. :P

Awesome! Sounds like you hit a magic combination. If it ain't broke, don't fix it... enjoy the ride!  :)
