Title: Tubeless or tube tires?
Post by S-P on 06/01/14 at 14:37:08

I'm shopping new tires. Looked at Dunlop 404's, Pirelli's etc. and most of them are only tubeless in the sizes spec'd or will fit. The stock tires are tubes. Any problem with changing to tubeless?

You just have to use a tube in any tire on a rim like ours...
Most tires are tubeless... our rims aren't... ;)...

Thanks! That's what I suspected, so I'll buy the tubes too.

Is there anyway of getting tubeless rims for the LS-650, or savage. You would think, that nowadays, it should be possible. Or not!!!

Is there anyway of (Fill in the blank)  for the LS-650.

So far I think the only impossibility has been a kick start..

And a proper, user friendly breaker plate (points) ignition conversion.

The only thing that would prompt me to do so would be an emp discharge or an wealthy customer.
since we don't have a kickstarter... so a magneto doesn't make sense.
somewhere, I've seen points mounted on the head... maybe a small Honda.  that'd be the way to go.  attach a ignition cam to the valve cam, come out thru the cam bore plug in the head and mount a plate and cover.  also like the idea of those coils attached to the plug.

Just trying to wrap my head around this.  The tubeless tire would leak through the spokes, correct?

Well, and there is a hole in the rim where the inflation valve goes through it. Maybe some bubble gum in it would make the rim tubeless?  :D

To be honest I would looove to have adjustable points.
Why ?
Picture this :

Walk up to a cold Savage after an overnight stay...

- pull the air lever to enrichen the mixture,
- pull the ignition advance lever to delay spark to 0° @ TDC
- turn key in ignition,
- push starter button,
WHUMP ! Thumpthumpthump...
- gradually release ignition advance lever back to OEM idle advance,
- clonk into 1st gear, ride off, release air lever as engine heats up.

That's the way Grampa taught me  :D
