Title: Carb Tuning: Garbly sounds
Post by Coaxial on 05/29/14 at 06:53:50

Hey guys I am having some issues tuning my bike correctly.

Currently when I roll off on the throttle the bike slows down and makes garbly farting noises sometimes the occasional pop.

I am using 145 / 45 / 1.5x turn  with one metal washer spacer.
I am 350 ft altitude close to a Lake.
I am using a K&N Air filter
I am using a Jardine Rumbler Exhaust.

I checked the sparkplug and it is dark and sooty.

Any thoughts?

You might try adding an additional washer to the needle.  It is normal to use 3, 2 sometimes works to correct a lean mid range.  I have not ever heard of anyone running just a single washer.

I like the garbly, farting, noises.... gives it character...

With your set-up,... your jetting sounds lean...
Try a 152.5/50# combo...

hmmm lean? last time i had a higher jet size my MPG went to around 36 mpg and sooty rear brake lever and spark plug. Very sooty.

I will try adding more spacers.

Man this Jardine is hard to tune.

Yep, you are compensating a lean setup with an overly rich needle setting.  and sparky could be sooty cause of that.

proper way is to set the jets 1st then adjust the needle.
