Title: stock carb settings
Post by shakenbake94 on 05/28/14 at 16:58:45

I'm new here and recently bought a 96 savage. I took the carb apart to clean it since it hadn't ran in a year. I cleaned it but all the jets were tightened all the way down. Is this right for the  bike being completely stock? If not what should they be set at?

yes, both jets should be tight. Main jet should have a washer underneath

Your thinking about the air fuel mix needle

if you haven't drilled out the brass cover and no one messed with the carburetor before then you didn't mess anything up

here's a pic of the mixture needle if you took it out to reveal/adjust it

A 1996 savage should have a 52.5 pilot and a 145 main jet
(notice I changed out my main for a 152.5)
here is what those jets look like

The mixture screw in the post above is turned out 3 turns (preset)
If your bike is still running lean and you have a stock muffler then its recommended you go to a 150 main

You never want to go more out then 3 full turns as the mixture screw it prone to fall out
