Title: Re: grand funk Post by stinger on 05/18/14 at 02:49:45 S-P! I remember the Ventures being one of the hottest bands of their time. Got lots of air time. Then back in the 80's, they played all summer in this crappy bar with a small dance floor like two blocks from me. I guess their fame had faded by then. |

Yeah, all the bands I used to see in stadiums are playing casinos now. I knew I was old when I passed a casino north of Albuquerque advertising Crosby, Stills and Nash. Sigh.... |

Title: Re: grand funk Post by Dave on 05/20/14 at 09:30:39 When I was in grade school my dad came home with our first 8 track player and a Ventures tape. Not long after that we also got a Johnny Cash tape. My first album....probably Michael Parks. I was young and hooked on "Then Came Bronson"....even though Michael Parks was not much of a singer. My first real Concert where I took a date? The Average White Band at Youngstown State University....probably about 1974. Followed by Iron Butterfly at the Tomorrow Club in Youngstown. Dave |

FSO on 05/20/14 at 11:17:55 when I was 15 I got an 8-track player for xmas 1975 with a tape of "Frampton Comes Alive". there were a couple other tapes...Captain and tennile comes to mind but Frampton was my favorite at the time. First concert was when I was in California, went to Anaheim Stadium in 1978 to see Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Black Sabbath(with Ozzy), and the Headliner was Boston. Great show but I would have set the line-up a little different. Me and my brother slept at the closed gas station across the street with about a thousand other kids that night. AL |
