Title: valve adjustment tightness?
Post by Jsud04 on 05/16/14 at 16:35:00

86 savage 17780 miles...

OK I did my home work. Read all the info on here about valves and did my first ever valve adjustment. All of my valves were .006s and 7s so I went down to .004.  So at .003 its got some snugness a little resistance....004 is more resistant and .005 darn near won't fit...any thoughts...I was thinking about taking apart again. And bumping up to .005...

I hear a sewing machine sound now...really gentle tick...but I didn't run it to temp. On my bike the valves seem to get louder as the engine is hotter...

Your valve adjustment is fine as it is.

The .003" thickness is too flimsy to build up any sliding pressure feel, the .004" snug is the same thing as .003" flimsy and those are both correct as a "new" start point.   You did a good job.

Stop while you are ahead.

It doesn't stay new sounding like that for long .....
