OK, am I just dumb now or what? I just got a replacement Suzuki speedometer and went to install it and it seems a little loose, even though I have the 3-screws that attach it to the gas tank as tight as I can get them. Also, there's a black foam-like ring that is our the silver part of the speedometer that also seems loose.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? Sorry..stupid guy here!

The screws are spring loaded,.. it's supposed to float a little...
Don't try to overtighten, or you'll break the plastic mounts (oh, yeah, I know)...
If it squeaks,.. there's a fix in the Tech Section...

I did something REALLY simple to make the speedometer fit really tight on the tank. I took black electrical tape and wrapped it around the speedometer (on the black foam insert under the silver speedometer ring). I did about 4-5 wraps really tight and now that speedometer fits really snug on the tank and no vibration sound or anything! Sometimes a non-mechanic can come up with a simple fix. ;D

Not to steal this thread, but am I the only one who wonders why the speedo cable goes into the engine, and not a wheel?
A tach cable would go into an engine, but a speedo? :o

our speedo goes to the tranny not the head.

Engine was patterned after old British racing singles from the 50s and 60s. Which were notorious for twisting cables apart, twisting the wheel mounted cable drive apart, breaking the cable off a bit ahead of the drive unit and the cable wrapping up in the rear wheel and causing a wreck... so it got moved to an output spud on the unit (combined engine/transmission) casing.

Want a "normal" set up? Bolt on a complete 800 Intruder front end assembly. Wheel driven speedometer, 21" front wheel, decent rotor and caliper, high mounted speedometer that is almost accurate... Add the 800's rear shocks at the same time to complete your handling upgrade (about 1000 fold better than stock).

Beagle, When my speedometer started buzzing, I cut gas hose maybe 1/8 longer than the pegs that go through the tank flange/tabs--two sizes hose--top and bottom. The hose works better than the springs imo. Slip the hose over the pegs. Install speedometer and slip different diameter hose on before using nuts. Mine's been on for several thousand miles. diagonal pliers make cutting easy.
