Title: Opinions on Electraglide seat
Post by Steve H on 05/07/14 at 15:41:53

I've run across a great condition factory '78 electraglide seat for a really good price.  Pan is not rusted and seat looks great with no rips, tears, etc.

Anybody ever tried to put something like that on  a Savage? Anybody have any ideas about the comfort of this seat?  I'm looking for something comfortable for all day riding and also a big enough passenger seat so my passenger, if I have one, will be reasonably comfortable too.

I adapted a vtx1300 seat to mine, but didn't cut out enough in the back/bottom and I sat a little higher and a bit more forward.

If the horns were cut off it probably be perfect because it would sit right on the frame.

Each seat is different and you will have to improvise to make it work.

I realize that I will have to improvise some sort of mounting.  It'd be great to have the seat a bit higher too.  If I could get 3 or 4 inches of additional height at the front, which would probably be about right for this seat, I wouldn't be so crunched up on the savage's tiny frame. I'd like to get up and back for more room as well as having a better seat.

I measured the seat.  It's 27" long, 15" wide at the widest point, there is roughly 1.5" rise from front to back. Mountings are 10" wide and 10.25" from front bolts to back bolts. Bolts are roughly centered front/back and side/side on the pan.

I dunno for sure if I want it on there or not.  It wouldn't be too big a deal to weld up a frame that would fit the bike and adapt the seat. Maybe hinged like an old Honda seat.  Would be room under for storage.

If I could get an extra 3 or 4 inches of seat height, I might not be so cramped.  It looks like I'd need a min. of around 3 for the seat to fit and look right but then it's gonna be higher in the front than the tank.  I would need very little to no raising in the back. What happend to nice long straight frames with plenty of nice thick seat? I guess they went away with the '70's.  I'm not a real big fan of sitting in a hole between the frame and the rear fender. But, I like the bike enough to want to make it more comfortable for some longer distance rides.

I was hoping someone would have some impressions of the comfort of the seat as well.
