Title: 1,000 mile check-up Post by Sheriff41 on 05/03/14 at 10:09:50 My wife's S40 just went over 1,000 miles and I thought I'd give it a once over to make sure everything is tight and functioning properly. I'll also do another oil and filter change (did one at 600 miles) just for good measure. Is there a checklist of items to check? Has anyone run across an item that definitely needs to be checked at this point? All inputs are appreciated! |

Oil/filter change.. air up the tires, check the valve adjustment if you want.. and the water in the battery if it's been 6 months... Then,.. ride a bunch more... ;D... From here on,.. you can stretch out oil changes and maintenance to 3k intervals... Oil/filter... check battery water, brake pads, air filter, inspect tires, drain the airbox tube, check the exhaust header bolts for snug, lube sidestand... (you can go 6 to 8k on valve inspection)... 12k... consider a Versy adjuster, and a Raptor pet... maybe replace brake fluid and bleed... lube the cables... 25k... fork oil, and grease steering bearings... and wash the bike... :-/... JMHO... not factory recommended schedule... |

Title: Re: 1,000 mile check-up Post by shorty on 05/03/14 at 16:54:56 Battery electrolyte is constantly depleting.. if you want the Battery to last don't let the level drop below the top of the lead plates.. unfortunately it's a small pain in the butt to remove.. there is an opening in the battery-box that lets you check electrolyte level (LH side) |

true the window only allows view of two cells but a healthy battery usually depletes evenly. A cell that drops more than the others probably is dropping internal resistance as well (shorted cell) |
