Title: advice requested
Post by Pine on 05/01/14 at 14:15:51

So wife and I are to take our first overnight on the 1100. We are going up the trace into TN. The previous owner had a cheap fleabay "trunk" with the passenger pad and all for his wife to lean on. It was broken before I go it. So now I need something to replace the function.

It seems there are two rodes:
another cheap ($65 to $200) plastic  trunk
something like the corbin trunk for $1100

Is there anything i can split the difference on. Say $250 to $500 but with greater quality than the ultra cheap unit?

Is Givi any good. I like the Mutazu looks ( thats the cheap stuff) but i already know the drawbacks.

I had the Givi E52 trunk on my Suzuki Burgman. They are well made but would look funky on a cruiser. With the Mutazu trunks, you must use/fabricate a sturdy mount and reinforce the bottom of the trunk. You could always get a sissy bar and sissy bar bag if you aren't going to use it all the time (that's what I had on my V Star 1100)

The adventure tour folks seem to favor the Givi trunk, as do the ST Honda folks.  The ST does not have a lot of space behind the seat to mount a trunk.

I just saw a used one for sale.....I'l go hunt the link.  (Already sold).

Here is a link to one on eBay......lots to choose from.

If you like soft luggage check out one of these.  They are extremely high quality.

For $1,100.00 you can get a small trailer, or build one, IMO, spending more than a few hundred on bags is just too much,, BUt, what I wouldnt want to do is make a quick decision because trip day is coming up,,I hope youre not over a barrel here,,If you are, then pack lite & stay in a motel,, but a decision & getting the bags & mounting is just too much just before a trip,, for me, anyway.

If you want a trailer to pull behind the bike, get the Tag Along trailer from Harbor Freight for about $400.

Well this sucks....

GIVI makes several lines but their top line is MONOKEY and the lower line is MONOLOCK. It turns out that the MONOKEY product uses bike specific brackets and there are no such brackets for my bike.

The MONOLOCK line has universal brackets.

The MONOLOCK line has universal brackets.

& we all know "universal bracket" is code for "Doesnt actually FIT anything"..
