Hi,just had a new rear tyre fitted and was wondering when replacing wheel does it matter which side the nut goes on left or right ? cheers

I suppose you are talking about the rear wheel....since the front wheel doesn't have a nut.

I believe that from the factory, the axle is inserted from the muffler side, and the nut is on the same side as the pulley.  With stock length shocks this work fine - but if you ever get longer shocks the axle may not be able to be removed as it could interfere with the muffler.

I guess you could put the axle in from the left side instead of the right - that would also be more convenient when tightning down the nut, holding the axle with the left hand, and tightening with the right.. When I changed my rear tyre, I found it difficult doing it the other way around..

either way works, I insert rear axle bolt from left to right to avoid muffler

I'm always backassward...
Mine goes bolt, right to left...

I like to be pulling up on the bolt side to tighten, because if I'm going to slip. I know it will be off the bolt, not the nut..
(ask me how I know)... :-?...
... and this way I won't punch the concrete when I do it...
